First off I want to say thank you for the guide. It's very detailed and noob friendly. The passive skill tree itself seems like a work of art with the minimum number going to wasteful attribute nodes (the +10 ones) that aren't close to good skill clusters.

That said I'm having trouble understanding the differences between the aggressive and defensive trees. To me it looks like the only real difference between the two is the duelist evasion/life cluster plus extra life node picked up near king of the hill. From what I can tell from the visual skill tree, the core of the build mostly lies in the ranger/shadow clusters and not the duelist clusters so if you build the core during the early - mid levels (when the game is easier and the extra defense isn't terribly necessary?), the defensive tree doesn't actually become that more defensive than the aggressive variant until pretty late in the game.

My question is does picking up those life nodes at such a late stage make the build overall that more defensive? Should one make a beeline for those life nodes during the early-mid levels? On the one hand it lets you benefit from the extra life earlier, but that also seems a bit wasteful when such excess defensiveness is unnecessary and the slower killing speed may mean remaining at risk longer. The ranger/shadow areas also have plenty of life clusters as well which seem like making a beeline for the duelist defensive nodes unnecessary.

Right now I'm really leaning towards the aggressive variant, perhaps with a more defensive skill gem setup that finds its way in HC builds (i.e. enfeeblement as an option instead of assassin's curse, the use of arctic armor to make kiting easier and extra damage mitigation). Possibly with the use of ice shot as a primary until crit/king of the hill become available/reliable as crowd control powers.

The two wasted nodes near the flash freeze and celerity cluster in the defensive tree hurts my soul lol

Would appreciate any thoughts/feedback :) Thanks again!

Note: Still a noob and not actually playing HC, but even when I play SC I play as if I were in HC.

When you get to have like 30-40k TS or Split Arrow dps, you should respec into the defensive tree. That damage is more than enough to carry you through maps.
Hey!
This guide really made me want to try focusing more on my ranger and I was lucky enough to get a Lioneye's glare as a drop.
My question though is this,
it rolled with only 150% phys damage but with 20% attack speed
I was wondering, which of the stats do you value more, would you try to get phys damage higher or would you be happy with it rolling max on attack speed?
No no no physical to lightning is there to level up :P I have not fixed all my sockets just yet cause there is no reason to :P
Im actually testing this on warbrand and i will stream sometimes so if you wanna see how it works or if you have some questions you're free to come

DPS with 3 PC and 7 Frenzy charges + Atziri's Promise using Hatred and HoA (still searching for a Vaal Haste..):

117k Frenzy
59k Split Arrow

Got lucky today. Bought a 6S Zodiac Leather, got it to 20% and started fusing it. 40th fusing was the luck.

This can also do ele reflect easily. Justs swap Phys To Lightning for Inc Crit Multiplier and run Herald of Ice.

I'm still thinking if to run HoI with Assassin's Mark CoH or manually cast it while using HoA.. The good part about HoI is that it's damage can't be reflected.
Ive seen some builds using tornado shot linked with power charge on critical and increased critical strikes instead of faster attacks and weapon elemental damage. Which one is better?

For the life of me I cant find information regarding what type of bow to use with LA. Everything Ive searched, googled, looked up on you tube, scoured the internet is either conflicting or out of date. So Im asking this to the pros in hopes of an answer.

When looking for a bow should I look for a pure phys bow, try to find multiple element dmg or go with a unique like lions eye or Chin Sol? Or should I not even try and bother with LA and just go split because it may be easier to itemize for? Any help/tips would be tremendously helpful.

High Phys if you're following this build. I don't recommend LA since it's manacosts are really huge. LA - GMP - Chain - WED - PPAD - FA already eats alot of mana and it's quite hard to sustain. Just like Ice Shot. I hoped they'd actually reduce their mana cost and make them equally viable, but without Atziri's Acuity, your mana will struggle too hard because you can't leech fast enough. Or get a Drillneck and use Pierce instead of Chain.

On the other hand, you can also try with a Voltaxic Rift and running it with Blood Magic, but I don't really know anything about the viability of Voltaxic nowadays. From 25+ exalted orbs and being a tier 1 bow it's barely worth 1-2 ex now.

Totally didn't think about regretting. Makes more sense now. Thanks a bunch!
Sorry if this has been asked before, but what would you link with tornado shot if you only have a 5L and not 6L? From what I understand physical to lightning and added elemental are only good together, and are only worth using in 6L, so what would a good substitute for 5L be?
