[outdated] Caustic Arrow Solo Map MFer (20/300+)
" I would play this build this league with the caveat that it won't be able to do the very hardest of content. Nonetheless, you'll be able to farm orbs/items and sell them - if you want to kill the hardest content you can use proceeds from this build to fund a boss killer. Initially you'll use your income to improve your CA MF toon - you'll be able to build up all the high price gear you see for the finished state of this toon fairly rapidly. So yes, although buying all the gear you'd eventually want for this toon might seem expensive, it's not too bad in practice b/c you'll reinvest income from drops into MF gear making your income generation that much better. It just snowballs. hankinsohl#1231 님이 2017. 12. 20. 오전 9:13:07에 마지막으로 편집

" Hank pretty much said what I would, but to address "Would I play it in Abyss?" Between Breaches and Abyss monsters, there's a LOT of mobs to get items from this league. I'm actually sort of upset with myself for not starting as MF, but I wanted a build that could go straight from league-start directly to Shaper without having to reroll.
Off Topic: Abyss
I MF'd from 1.2 to 2.5, (nearly 2.5 years straight) and got exhausted of it. No surprise to regulars here, I'm still not MFing as a league starter.
I don't really have the story Hank does regarding character turmoils and testing things out, switching things up, etc. I ran RF again (as I did in Harbinger) and ran into the hiccup with RoTP, but a quick test in Standard (using some gem manipulation) revealed in short order that the -3% max res was more about fixing non-pure RF builds utilizing Phoenix for a cheap damage boost. Pure RF doesn't really have much of an issue, other than becoming slightly less tanky (less regen, especially if you want to take something like Lunaris instead of Arakali for Pantheon powers). In the midst of my usual beeline for 40/40, should hopefully have end-game grinds done soon then push on to influenced maps, and the rest is cake afterwards. Worth noting however: If you're dropping Elder/Shaped items in higher-tier maps (even T9+): price check good bases, especially jewellery. An ilvl 80+ two-stone ring with literally nothing on it goes for 15c or more just as a crafting base. Eternal Burgonet's are 10c+. Crafting bases are valuable this league. Example: Jul 27, 2011 - Sept 30, 2018.

" I might play this build this league. I will point out I usually just stick with a +2 bow, play for quantity over quality (mid tier maps, chaos recipe and alt shards), and find the play style very relaxing. With the above information I would feel pretty good about playing this league, but would not likely see any Liches, due to spawn level, and might not make the timers (for cracks or spires). This is my own limitation, and going for the full +3 with empower bow would result in slightly higher content than I normally do with CA (in a challenge league). And if you wanted to complete most of the challenges by way of trade, this would more than fund it for sure.
Off-Topic
Max Block is a powerful drug. My second character after MF last league was a Max Block Scorching Ray Scion using the Harbinger Shield. Other than the performance issues with Scorching Ray it was a blast. Right, so Max Block. This league I started with a build I thought should be able to get me up to most of the content (Not sure on Shaper or Uber Atziri yet), the Dark Pact totem build from build of the week. Pretty cheap to start which was nice too. Going great so far, I do need to agree with Hank, the pulsing totems when monsters are out of range is a little strange, but everything else seems to be fine. Most bosses are not a problem, some quick or high mobility bosses create a longer fight. I learned I do not have the mechanics for the Mino fight, at least not yet and not deathless. Also working towards 40/40 this league. With Atziri completed, I think I should be able to just play my way through the rest of the league for completion. It might be a good idea to buy Lich and Guardian Arena kills while there is a lot of activity in trade chat, but luck/time might work out in the end. Also also with the new map shape and atlas rework I am back to collecting two of each map. If you shape something interesting and have any non-quality versions let me know. Hopefully I have this league and next to work on it. |

Playing this build again this league, and it's running fine. I like the fact that it can kill some of the tougher bosses a bit more safely (especially Ambrius), although the lower dps does mean boss fights last longer and you have to deal with mechanics more than some builds do. Note: it can be scaled to higher dps to an extent, but I'm using it like most for generating currency, so I'm keeping it fairly simple.
I just got a lucky Rigwald's Quills drop from turning in a Void card, and it looks like it might be a viable quiver for the build, considering the increased projectile damage and forking mods. Though the forking may not apply or come into play since the play style isn't to always aim for an enemy. Any thoughts on this unique over a corrupted additional arrow quiver? Path of Building shows a +6% DoT dps with Rigwald's Quills versus added arrow. POE's tooltip shows a similar increase. The trade off though is losing the life and resistances from the rare quiver. |

Due to dual Andvarius, the build used to rely pretty heavily on resistances for jewels in order to fit in Drillneck for what used to be a 100% damage boost, then 50%.
Since the mechanic behind Drillneck changed (making its benefit SUPER inconsistent) we switched to a rare quiver because even a reasonably rolled quiver (30% to all res) allowed us to drop resistances on at least three of the six jewels (depending on gear), substituting damage rolls instead. Assuming however that each jewel constituted one resistance of 15% each (totalling 90% resistance), a 30/30/30 quiver would allow all six jewels to lose a resistance roll, to the tune of 60-72% increased damage. That's 10-22% more than a top-rolled Quills. Of course the better the quiver, and the better the resistances on the other gear, the easier this becomes. I typically allow for mid-tier damage rolls (10% each) on jewels and assume at least two jewels will still have resistances rather than damage, putting us at approximately a 40% damage increase via the rare quiver permitting dps on jewels. Meaning essentially that Quills is basically not recommended, as simply investing in a better quiver and being willing to throw a few extra chaos on better res rolls on the helmet/amulet/gloves/belt slots allows you to at the very least match Quills, if not beat it. Unfortunately it also does mean more investment for jewels (life/dps/dps is always going to be more expensive than life/dps/resistance), but short of divination cards, you're looking at a 4ex+ for Quills anyway, making it not only the more difficult option, but the less prudent one. at what level does empower beat out less duration for damage?
|
|
Level 2 (assuming you have a +1/+2 bow), and assuming LD is level 20 for comparison.

Could this be used as a starting off weapon? and would it last me a while until I make a "gg" bow?
|
|
Yes, but it's not worth 5Ling that.
As you can see via this search, 5L +2 bows are available for 3c or less. And in the event none of them reply, you can always buy a white/magic ilvl 64+ 5L and craft +2 yourself. No other affixes are useful for CA unless you get a Decay-crafted bow or slap the Leo DoT mod on it, and for a starting +2 bow you shouldn't worry about that anyway. Jul 27, 2011 - Sept 30, 2018. It seems that mirage archer would be a good choice as one of the links. Have you looked into replacing any of the links with mirage archer to see how it fares in comparison?
