With the price of The Surrender being so high is it still better to go with that instead of a nice shaper shield with %life recovery on block?

It's an alternative, but a good one will be in the same price range if you don't get lucky crafting. Note that most shields have less block chance, so you will have to make up for that somehow.

I played cyclone slayer as starter for the first week of the league. then voidshot pathfinder for a few days. I already stopped playing this league a week ago though.
